MUPIDERM Ointment: Your Solution for Impetigo Treatment

MUPIDERM Ointment, containing 2% Mupirocin, is a topical
antibiotic medication designed to effectively treat impetigo. In this
comprehensive description, we will delve into the composition, indications,
dosage, precautions, adverse reactions, and more to provide a thorough
understanding of MUPIDERM Ointment.

Composition:

 Mupiderm Ointment
contains Mupirocin 2% w/w in a neutral base.

Indications and Usage:

 MUPIDERM Ointment is
indicated for the topical treatment of impetigo caused by susceptible strains
of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Streptococcus pyogenes (S. pyogenes).

Dosage and Administration:

  •  For Topical Use Only
  •  Apply a small amount
of MUPIDERM Ointment to the affected area three times daily for up to 10 days
  •  A cotton swab or
gauze pad can be used for application, and a gauze dressing may be applied if
    desired
  •  Reevaluate patients
who do not show a clinical response within 3 to 5 days

Overdosage:

  •  Overdose with
Mupirocin is rare, and its toxicity is very low
  •  In the event of
accidental ingestion, symptomatic treatment should be administered
  •  There is no specific
    treatment for Mupirocin overdose

Adverse Reactions

 Local adverse
reactions reported in clinical trials include burning, stinging, pain (1.5% of
subjects), and itching (1% of subjects).

 Less common reactions
(less than 1%) include rash, nausea, erythema, dry skin, tenderness, swelling,
contact dermatitis, and increased exudate.

Use in Specific Populations:

 Pregnancy: Limited
human data; minimal systemic absorption through intact skin; no developmental
toxicity observed in animal studies.

 Lactation:
Mupirocin’s minimal systemic absorption in humans makes exposure to breastfed
children unlikely; benefits of breastfeeding should be considered.

 Pediatric Use: Safety
and effectiveness established in ages 2 months to 16 years for impetigo
treatment.

Nonclinical Toxicology:

  •  No longterm
    carcinogenicity studies conducted
  •  Mupirocin has not
    shown genotoxic potential
  •  Fertility and
reproductive performance not impaired in animal studies
