Betasalic Ointment:Â
Betasalic Ointment (Betamethasone Dipropionate) is a synthetic corticosteroid with antiinflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. It is used to treat dermatological diseases.
Salicylic Acid is a keratolytic and antiseptic agent that softens keratin, loosens cornified epithelium, and aids in the penetration of betamethasone.
COMPOSITIONÂ
Betasalic Ointment:Â
- Â Betamethasone (as Dipropionate) BP: 0.5 mg
- Â Salicylic Acid BP: 30 mg (2% w/w)
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Betasalic Ointment:
 Betamethasone Dipropionate: Effective in treating inflammatory dermatoses, including
psoriasis and eczema.
 Salicylic Acid: Keratolytic action that softens and exfoliates the epidermis.
INDICATIONSÂ
Betasalic Ointment is indicated for the relief of inflammatory manifestations of skin conditions like psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, lichen planus, eczema, and more.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
- Â Adults: Apply a thin film to the affected area 12 times daily. Massage gently.
- Â Children: Limit use to 5 days, and dosage should be limited. Follow the physician’s instructions.
ADVERSE REACTIONSÂ
Possible side effects include burning, itching, irritation, dryness, folliculitis, acneiform eruptions, and more. The use of occlusive dressings may increase adverse effects.
SPECIAL POPULATIONSÂ
 Pregnancy: Limited systemic absorption, consider the importance of the drug to the mother.
 Nursing Mothers: Minimal systemic absorption; wash the treated area before breastfeeding.
 Pediatric Use: Use in children should be limited; prolonged use may interfere with growth.
WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS
- Â Discontinue use if irritation or sensitization occurs.
- Â Avoid occlusion as it can enhance steroid absorption.
- Â Be cautious with infants and children; systemic effects may occur.
- Â Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
- Â Discontinue if excessive dryness or irritation develops.
CONTRAINDICATIONSÂ
 Contraindicated in viral diseases, fungal infections, tuberculosis of the skin, and hypersensitivity to its components.
OVERDOSAGEÂ
Excessive or prolonged use may lead to symptoms of hypercorticism or salicylism. Symptomatic treatment is advised.
