Description

CONFLU (Fluconazole) Capsules: Your Guide to Antifungal Medication

Presentation:

CONFLU CAPSULE presents Fluconazole in  form for oral use, available in 150mg strength.

What’s Inside?

Each CONFLU capsule contains 150mg of Fluconazole.

Antimicrobial Action:

CONFLU’s active ingredient, Fluconazole, is a triazole antifungal drug that effectively inhibits fungi. It does so by impairing cytochrome P450-dependent enzymes, leading to the disruption of ergosterol synthesis in fungal cell membranes. CONFLU targets a range of fungal species, including Blastomeres dermatitis, Candida spp, Coccidiosis’s imcites, Cryptococcus neoformans, Epidermophyton spp, Histoplasma capsulatum, Micros Porum spp, and Trichophyton spp.

Pharmacokinetics:

Fluconazole reaches peak concentrations 1 to 2 hours after oral administration.
It undergoes effective absorption through oral administration, exhibiting a bioavailability of approximately 90%. The drug is distributed widely in the body, with a volume of distribution equal to the total body water.
Fluconazole is secreted in various bodily fluids like saliva, breast milk, sputum, vaginal fluids, and peritoneal fluids.
The concentration of Fluconazole in the cerebrospinal fluid is around 50% to 90% of the plasma concentration.
The body eliminates approximately 80% of the drug through urine in its unchanged form, while metabolites account for the remaining 10%.
The drug’s elimination half-life is approximately 30 hours, which may increase with renal impairment.

Indications:

CONFLU is primarily used to treat various fungal infections, including systemic candidiasis, superficial mucosal candidiasis (e.g., oropharyngeal, pharyngeal, and vaginal), and fungal skin infections. It has also shown promise in cases of coccidioidomycosis, cryptococcosis, blastomycosis, chromoblastomycosis, histoplasmosis.

Adverse Effects:

Common side effects of CONFLU include gastrointestinal issues and taste disturbances. Other less common effects encompass headaches, dizziness, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, hyperlipidemia, and elevated liver enzymes. Notably, severe hepatotoxicity and Stevens-Johnson syndrome have been reported in patients with AIDS, along with rare occurrences of anaphylaxis and angioedema.

Fertility, Pregnancy, and Lactation:

In animal studies, Fluconazole did not affect the fertility of male or female rats.
During pregnancy, the use of Fluconazole in the first trimester may pose a slight increase in the risk of spontaneous abortion, although this is not conclusively established.
Fluconazole passes into breast milk but remains at concentrations lower than in the mother’s plasma. Therefore, breastfeeding is discouraged after repeated or high-dose use of Fluconazole.

Uses in Children:

Doctors generally do not recommend using Fluconazole in children under 16. However, if doctors deem treatment essential, they recommend specific dosages for different infections in children aged 1 year and older.

Interactions:

CONFLU may interact with various drugs, such as Rifampicin, Hydrochlorothiazide, and other medications, affecting their plasma concentrations and potentially causing cardiac arrhythmias. Additionally, Fluconazole may impact the metabolism of different drugs through enzyme inhibition, leading to potential drug interactions.

Precautions:

Use CONFLU cautiously in patients with hepatic and renal insufficiency. Doctors do not recommend using it during pregnancy due to potential teratogenic effects observed in animal studies.

Packing:

CONFLU is available in blister packs, with each pack containing a single capsule (1’s).
